Oil-soluble contrast medium (OSCM) used in hysterosalpingography (HSG)
10 mL
Oil-soluble contrast medium (OSCM) used in hysterosalpingography (HSG) is ethiodized oil (Fertivue), an iodinated ester of fatty acids derived from poppy seed oil. Its high iodine content makes it strongly radiopaque and suitable for outlining the uterine cavity and fallopian tubes. In addition to its diagnostic role, it provides a Therapeutic Benefit in Infertility. Tubal flushing helps remove minor tubal debris, improves tubal function, and reduces local inflammation. This has been associated with increased spontaneous pregnancy as well as higher live birth rates after oil-based HSG.
